If you haven’t heard yet, there’s a new legal requirement landing in your lap this month.
Starting February 27, 2026, mandatory child safety training becomes a requirement under the National Law and Regulations for everyone in your service – from your approved provider and nominated supervisors right through to educators, support staff, volunteers, and students.

We sat down with Kirsty Crozzoli, KKTC‘s GM of Training Delivery, to understand what’s coming and how centre owners and directors can prepare without the last-minute scramble.

Who needs to complete this training?

This isn’t just for your qualified educators. According to Kirsty, the requirement covers:

  • Approved providers and anyone with management or control
  • Nominated supervisors
  • Persons in day-to-day charge
  • All educators (qualified and unqualified, including those studying)
  • Support staff, volunteers, and students on placement

“If they’re directly or indirectly involved in the care and education of children, they need to complete this training,” Kirsty explains. “It’s the approved provider’s responsibility to ensure everyone has completed it.”

What happens if you don’t comply?

Kirsty was clear on this: “Authorised officers will be checking compliance during assessment and rating visits. Without the training certificate, staff won’t be able to work in the centre. It’s a legal requirement.”

No training certificate = no compliance = regulatory risk during your next assessment visit.

The webinar that breaks it all down

New regulations always come with questions. What does the rollout actually look like? How do you schedule training for your entire team without disrupting operations? What systems do you need in place to prove compliance when the authorised officer arrives?

KKTC Education has been involved in consultation with the Department of Education throughout this process. They know what’s coming, what it means for your service, and most importantly – the practical steps you need to take right now to be ready.

That’s why we’ve partnered with them to bring you a free webinar led by Kirsty and the KKTC team.
